The causes behind hair loss?

Hair loss is a natural side effect of old age but some men can experience hair loss as early on as there teens or during the onset of puberty.

Genetics plays a large part in the cause of hair loss but also diet and stress can be factors in losing your hair. A large percentage of men's hair loss is caused by a hereditary condition called androgenetic alopecia.

Male hair loss is directly linked to the presence of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). While we all produce DHT, there does exist an inherited genetic link. Scientific research has shown that the gene for hair loss comes from either or both sides of the family, and contrary to popular belief, is not linked only to your mother's side. If your immediate family have experienced hair loss it is more than probable that you will also suffer this condition in your lifetime.

Male hair loss can also be linked to the fact that you are experiencing high levels of stress possibly due to pressures at work or through illness. Stress can be a contributing factor to not only hair loss but also many illnesses and everyone will face some kind of stress in there lifetimes.

Other causes of hair loss can be linked to medicines which are taken orally this can be a factor behind male hair loss or may play a part in the weakening of the strength of your hair.

What is DHT?

DHT is produced when the enzyme 5 alpha reductase combines with testosterone. This overabundance of DHT leads to follicles that grow back shorter and thinner and eventually over time this will cause it to stop producing hair. This DHT imbalance leads to baldness (androgenetic alopecia).
